Despite the grueling tests and incessant march of written lab reports, AP Bio has its perks; one of them being the staggeringly phenomenal trip to Oahu, Hawaii, where some of the best memories are crafted. I’ve listed some of my top memories that will stay with me and bring me joy, even when I’m knee-deep in studying for the AP test.
- Jumping and flipping off the side of a boat into some of the bluest water I’ve ever been in.
- Playing possibly the most competitive game of Uno on the floor of our cabin.
- Night snorkeling, where about a quarter of the class lost a flipper due to the thrashing around of classmates.
- Hiking 7 MILES total. 3.5 miles straight uphill, just to turn around and walk 3.5 miles right back down.
- Kayaking, paddleboarding, and snorkeling amongst friends and scaring sea turtles.
- Desperately clinging to the wires of the high ropes while praying that your harness will click onto the next obstacle.
- Grasping the hand of the person next to you whilst teetering on a thin wire, direly hoping to make it to the tree without falling and having the group start team bonding all over again.
- Scream-singing Disney songs and nursery rhymes at each other across a glaring campfire.
- Sitting on the corner of Pearl Harbor’s parking lot eating pizza while tourists passed, looking puzzled at our state.
- A group of 40 high schoolers sitting on a Disney resort beach surrounded by kids and parents.
- Witnessing the spectacular Hawaiian outfits that were worn to the luau.
- Stressing about the genetics packet on the plane ride home that haunted us from the second we landed in California.
