The Lapse

Never smelled so sweet the scent of sleep

These dreams to the bed I’ve retired to keep

Passions of old and lusts of new

To dawn one day and visions become view

Far fell the past behind curtains of old

In begotten dreams there sinks the soul

To find Heaven in a day that has passed

So Eden gleaned what no longer lasts

And if Hell wells up in my throat today

So Eden has left its price to pay

There bears the signs from beyond my teeth

A tongue of gold, a language of grief

To extract from me

And eradicate the disease

Is to expound in me

All that’s not at ease

Never sounded so silent the anthem of peace

These voices, they drown and in song, cease

Passions of the heart and lusts of the soul

To be gone one day and remain forever null
