my memories play together
a chord so out of key
clipped my wings and now i’m tethered
to things i can’t unsee
still bear the brunt of their pressure
and there’s no guarantee
that bridges burned will bring pleasure
or a sigh of relief
still i long to break my tethers
and have the chord play for me
