The OLu MUSE

Sharing Talent at the 2023 Fall Art Show

The arts have always played a huge part at OLu—our very own Nechita center is named after one of our alumni, Alexandra Nechita. It should come as no surprise that any opportunity to promote students’ hard work and creativity is jumped upon, one of which being the annual Fall Art Show.

Every school year, there are two art shows that showcase the dedication and creativity of all of OLu’s visual and media art students. From traditional mediums in Exploratory Art and Studio Art like paper and pen, to Ceramics with clay and Photo and Design digitally, at OLu, all forms of art are appreciated and treated as equal. Additionally, sweet treats—usually in the form of donuts—are provided as not only an incentive for visitors to come and look around, but to keep them there and let them engage with our talented artists and their passionate art teachers. At the same time, the treats and visitors serve as a reward for art students and all their hard work.

As an art student taking Ceramics 1 who loves all forms of art, the Fall Art Show is a great opportunity for me and other students alike to gain inspiration, admire others’ hard work, and  marvel at the talent of our fellow students. All forms of art—visual, literary, and theatrical—play a huge part in daily life at OLu, and the arts are one of many paths students are gifted in. Though creating art can be a tiring process, displaying your own art up for everyone to see is a huge confidence boost for many, and the Art Show is able to provide that much needed boost right when morale might begin to get low.

While creating art certainly isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, being able to admire and appreciate the talent and dedication of others is something that everyone can do. Whether a freshman taking Exploratory Art to try something new, or a senior in the Visual Arts Academy working on their Capstone project to get into the art school of their dreams, at OLu, all levels and types of art are valued. Overall, the Fall Art Show is an enjoyable and memorable experience for all who choose to attend, and continues to promote community surrounding all types of interests.
