My First Humanities Christmas

This past Sunday, I had a wonderful opportunity to attend my first Humanities Christmas party. I was so excited, especially considering this was my first year as a member of the Humanities Pathway. All of us were happily gathered together at Mrs. Pinick’s house, bundled in festive Christmas clothing; Christmas music played throughout the house as the night went on.

As I entered the house to start mingling with my friends, we put our names on plastic cups that we were able to use in order to drink delicious sparkling cider. There was a large spread of food ready for us to eat; beans, rice, chicken, salsa—it was mostly Mexican food, but the taco I had was very delicious. While eating, I was easily able to chat with my friends and hang outside for a bit. I thought it was pretty fun when I was able to join my friends in getting our picture taken together. When we went back inside to play some games, I grabbed some delicious desserts, such as white fudge-covered Oreos and cream puffs.

Our first game of the night was rather interesting; there were sets of small prizes wrapped in plastic wrap that one person needed to unwrap while wearing oven mitts. In addition to having a person unwrap prizes, someone else rolls a pair of dice until they roll doubles. Rolling double meant the roller got to unwrap next. I personally struggled with this game a bit, but it was still fun.

After the unwrapping, we then had a White Elephant book exchange, which I definitely enjoyed. The book I was most excited to see was The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. I really wanted that book since I recently saw the movie. I didn’t get the book at first because someone else had it, but when it was my turn, I stole the book for myself. As the exchange continued, no one else wanted to steal the book, so in the end, I took the book home.

After the book exchange, everyone started getting ready to go home. I waited awhile before I too was picked up, but I wish this experience didn’t pass so quickly. I hope I can spend more moments like these with my friends in the future, because this party is one I’ll never forget.
