warm lines of light stripe across my desk,
dim orange tones obscure the greens of leaves.
night, sleek as skunk, slinks through my window
dipping its delicate head just below the beads.
its white and black stripes lay out a psalm,
velvety fur carpeting the draft–
a cold current turned consoling charm;
I can’t deny her soothing witchcraft.
outside, i feel it lurking
glass eyes gleam like pitch
teeth small and tawny hitch
onto my skin, lacerating.
buds of blood sprout
as small beads sanguine.
florid shadows on the wallpaper encroach,
and luscious night has taken me
