Is there any value in finding your passion? Is it worth the risk? Though it might be rewarding to chase your passion on an emotional level, it might not be rewarding on a financial level. It’s always been encouraged to chase your dreams, to reach for the stars, and to be passionate about what you do, but should you? How many people move to Los Angeles each year in hopes to break into the film industry. How many people move to New York City, or another big city, in hopes to climb the ranks of their dream job and make it big. How many people train and spend their lives in an attempt to go pro, but never make it past the collegiate level. The probability is quite low for any of these, but people continue to do it. As the chances might be low, the slim chance is still there.
Though it might be a smarter move to chase money and aim to be stable, there is a desire present in all humans to go and chase a dream. There is nothing really stopping people from going after their dreams, whether it be a job, vacation, or home. The only real thing stopping people is money. People want to be able to support themselves and many people are unable to do that while going after their passion. That’s why you see many actors working as waiters, because they will move impulsively and not be able to support themselves while they try to make it big.
There are also many reasons one could go after their passion: to make a name for themselves, to make money, or to be the person you always dreamed of being or looked up to, to name a few. But what’s stopping us all from doing this, what’s really holding us back? Well, people might be too shy or too afraid of risks, and would rather play it safe. On paper it might be for the better, but someone needs to take that risk eventually. If everyone is too scared or too afraid, where would the progress be in the world? It’s crucial for our world, for us specifically, that we have people that are willing to take a risk and make some sort of progress. Others might be questioning their abilities, whether they have the abilities to go and do what they have dreamt of doing for years. Yes, it’s reasonable, but self doubt is critical to one’s failure. If you don’t think you can do it, then you never will. If you don’t believe in yourself then no one will. So it all starts with you, if you believe in yourself, then what is stopping others from doing the same.
All in all, we are the only people hurting ourselves. We are the ones that are holding ourselves back in more cases than not. Once we overcome the struggles we put before ourselves, nothing should stop us from pursuing our passions, and being the best versions of ourselves we can be.
