First day of kindergarten, it’s time to learn
the colors of the world—the rainbow, I’d discern.
Red, orange, yellow, green, followed by blue!
Those are the colors of the world—indigo and violet too.
So many to choose from, which shall I pick?
Hurry, hurry—the clock has begun to tick!
Tick tock, tick tock, time starts to race—
Life begins to fade, and it’s leaving no trace.
Slow down, slow down, please hear my voice—
I swear it, I swear it, I’ve almost made my choice!
It’s not stopping, please stop—fine, I pick them all!
I’m afraid that’s not an option, though it certainly takes gall.
It’s been fifty years, yet not even time can restore
the colors of the world—to be seen nevermore.
