Dear Autumn,
Welcome back! I hope you’ve been well. Almost everyone I know has been anxiously awaiting your arrival. We are so excited for the things you come to offer us, like leaves littering the ground, crisp air that tickles our noses, and the tasty foods that call to us when we walk through the door. We wait about 12 months, 365 days, 8,760 hours, for you to show up. But the unfortunate part is that you‘re only here for a short period of time. The time we have together is limited, but I guess that’s what makes it so special.
I know there are people out there that aren’t as excited for you as some. You come with a highly suggested attire, changes in restaurant menus, and a never-ending pattern of allergies. I can understand where they come from, but that’s what Benadryl is for. But there is one thing I can reason with: Too. Much. Pumpkin. Spice. Don’t get me wrong, I love certain pumpkin spiced things, but pumpkin spiced protein powder? Pumpkin spiced cooking spray? C’mon, that’s a bit extreme.
But to me, the pros outweigh the cons. From warm sweaters to the bright, warm colors every day, there’s always something I can find joy in. You remind me of God’s amazing creation and how blessed we are to be here in this world. There are some things that you offer us at this time of year that other seasons simply can’t fulfill or recreate. I wanted to thank you for the happiness you bring me. I hope you feel welcomed by us all and that you might reconsider staying a little longer. I can’t wait to make more autumn memories!
Wistfully,
Daelynn Lopez
P.S. You’re my favorite season. Shh, don’t tell the others … 😉
