From birth we were assigned to each other

We were destined to have same Christmas mornings

We were destined to have the same brother

We were destined to have the same bathroom

We were destined to have the same dog

We were destined to have the same experiences

Although we were opposites, we were somehow the same person.

Your room remained in a permanent state of tidiness,

My room remained in a permanent state of chaos,

But we always cluttered the bathroom counter together.

Your heart was never in volleyball.

Volleyball has my heart entirely,

But we both chose volleyball instead of tennis.

You attended the high school across the street.

I attend a high school twenty minutes away,

But we returned to the same house every afternoon.

Only one thing has changed.

After 16 years together,

We no longer return to the same house.

You are only 20 minutes away,

But what a stark contrast that is compared to

A peek around the corner into your room,

A trip downstairs to the living room couch,

A walk down the hallway to our bathroom.

How lucky was I to experience 16 years with you?

How grateful I am that you are my sister
