How does social media make you feel? I bet on a day-to-day basis it’s a way to take your mind off the stresses of school and other problems…until you keep scrolling and scrolling, comparing yourself to people and videos. Almost everyone feels that way about social media to some extent, but Pinterest is my only exception—it’s only inspiration, catered towards whatever you desire in that moment.
What sets Pinterest apart from most social media platforms is its ability to provide self-expression and creativity without any negative feedback. Most social media platforms with negative messages and comments eventually become exhausting. But personally, I never find Pinterest exhausting. While there are comment sections on photos, the most you will ever see is “where is that top from?” or “photo creds: @blahblahblah.” There are no news outlets or weird ads—in fact, the ads are targeted towards your home feed (mine are all for clothes)—which allow you to take a break from the stressful real world and focus on the positive and pretty. Its singular focus is on the “media” in social media.
Despite the endless amount of photos you can find on Pinterest, it’s not cluttered with updates and fleeting ideals and trends; it’s a virtual canvas curated for your interests. Pinterest is a safe space where you can curate your home feed towards your fluctuating moods and styles.
But Pinterest is more than just pretty pictures (although that’s one of the best parts). Through collaboration and group boards you can share inspo and ideas with your friends as well.
Need group Halloween costume inspo? Pinterest.
Need ideas for Galentines? Pinterest.
Need ideas for the perfect beach day? Pinterest!
The platform’s endless supply of photos fuels your creativity and makes sure you never run out of inspiration.
Okay, I know this kind of sounds like an ad, but try it out and you will see I’m not trying to exaggerate or sell you anything. You can save or post photos that cater to diverse aesthetics, styles, or interests—after all the name is derived from “pinning your interests.” It’s just a culmination of photos put into any broad or niche category: outfit inspo, foods, wish lists, spring break photo inspo, dream home/decor, or your 2024 vision board.
So the next time you’re stressed out, unmotivated, or just want to romanticize your life, I recommend putting on your favorite Spotify playlist and scrolling through Pinterest!
