“a 5, 6, 7, 8“
Question 1: Where are you looking in time?
A: The future
B: present
C: past
D: don’t know, don’t care
Question 2: What is the cause of the most excitement/drama in your life right now?
A: big change incoming
B: a fascinating new discovery
C: something special suddenly back in your life
D: a random and stupid thing
Question 3: What is your favorite time of the school year?
A: last day before break (same)
B: finals week (who are you!? i’m scared…)
C: yearbooks
D: summer
Question 4: What is the current energy of your life/song?
A: dramatic and exciting, maybe a big dance number
B: energetic and fun, yet meaningful
C: quieter and more thoughtful
D: lameness, waste of time-ness, don’t even want to use real words-ness
Question 5: What’s a weakness of yours?
A: actions that have future consequences.
B: waiting until the last minute
C: not present in the here and now
D: lack of purpose
Question 6: How many people are around you these days? Introvert/extrovert?
A: Lots and lots of people! All 8 billion are my besties! (super duper extroverted)
B: a decent amount of the most important people to me (extrovert)
C: I prefer my own company and thrive in solitude (introvert)
D: equally alone or with people (ambivert/not sure/who cares)
Question 7: What do you think the public reception of this number would be?
A: Everyone’s obsessed! This is THE song that the show is known for! Even non-theatre (aka non-good taste having) people know all the lyrics. If you start singing it, prepare for every theatre kid to be summoned, joining in harmony and choreography. Kinda got ruined after being overplayed on tik tok though…
B: Fan Favorite! Never seems to get old. You always love to hear it, and tik tok hasn’t gotten its grubby hands on it and ruined this one by overplaying it (yet)
C: polarizing. Fans either really love it or hate it. It’s a decent song, but the more popular and exciting songs steal the spotlight.
D: *Skipped* “what song was that again?” “Oh… that one sucked.”
Question 8: Most accurate description of you in a zombie apocalypse?
A: You were born ready to face whatever those zombies have in store! You have your loyal squad, supplies stocked in your super sick apocalypse truck, your fire zombie fighting playlist (with no ads because you paid for premium! yes, they still charge you in the apocalypse), and the skills to unleash all your best moves (dance moves as well as attacks)! Those foolish zombies don’t stand a chance!
B: After all else has fallen, you’re one of the last ones left. The zombie army grows every second. It’s up to you to save humanity! Everything that’s happened since you were thrown into this crazy adventure has prepared you for this moment. You’re finally ready to rise up and take down these creatures once and for all!
C: Carefully crafting your flawless survival plan. Considering all factors in order to formulate the smartest strategy. You’re safe in your secret shelter, making observations, new technologies, and out of the box innovations. While the others are chasing the action of the battles, you’re using your brains to make sure the zombies can’t eat them. You’ve learned from others’ fatal mistakes, and your new knowledge will be a crucial key to figuring out how to survive
D: You’re one of the zombies lol…you got caught immediately and they were gonna eat your brains but couldn’t find any. Since there’s less brains in your head than chips in a Lay’s bag, the (very hungry) zombies made you part of their team instead. They thought you could be more useful on their side, but you don’t even do anything for the zombies either. You just sit around and do nothing. Very peaceful, but not contributing to anything in the slightest.
“And scene!”
If you got mostly A’s:
Your number is the act one finale! This number means that things are just getting started. It foreshadows what will happen in the next act. The last song before heading into intermission or act two. Maybe an “act” of your life is coming to an end: You’re a senior about to graduate, leaving an old job for a new one, or even experiencing the beginning/ending of a meaningful relationship. Whatever the case, you’re in a transitional phase right now, and things will never be the same. I hope you made the most of it, because soon your old routines and familiar surroundings will be gone forever! …Wow, that sounded dark, time for the dance break! *tap dance noises*. But why would you want to go through life’s changes full of dread and angst? There’s probably a valid reason that I’m just not able to realize, but that’s not what the act 1 finale is about! The act 1 finale is usually an upbeat, positive number that provides closure for the first part of the story and builds up anticipation for the next part; the finale of a “first act” in your life can also contain appreciation for what’s happened and excitement to find out what happens next!
If you got mostly B’s:
Your number is the 11 o’clock number! This is the moment before everything is resolved. It’s an emotional turning point or revelation, a big and exciting thing. Perhaps you’ve been feeling a little tired lately. You’ve had so many new experiences and challenges, and it’s time to move toward a conclusion. Or maybe the events in your life were kind of boring not too long ago? It’s time for the 11 o’clock number, to make things exciting again before the finale! If things have been going wrong for a while but have recently turned around, then you might be in an 11 o’clock number!
If you got mostly C’s:
Your number is the reprise! A repetition of an earlier theme, motif, or song. The number your character would sing is a reprise because you’ve been reflecting. Right now, most of your thoughts are about the past and how things are different now. While reprises aren’t always fan favorites due to their short length and simplicity, the importance is found in what the song means for character growth and development. However sometimes reprises can be even better than the original! Whether it’s something as simple as revisiting an old favorite piece of media, or reflecting on the changes and continuities of your past and present, the musical number during this period is a reprise.
If you got mostly D’s:
Your number is the irrelevant throwaway song that no one likes! Hold on, don’t get offended! I’m not saying you are irrelevant or that no one likes you, I’m saying that this time in your life doesn’t seem the most exciting. Songs like this are usually after intermission while everyone is going back to their seats; they usually reintroduce the story, but they can also just be random and have no relevance to the plot. Maybe you’re coming back from a relaxing break and you’re still trying to re-adjust to the regular routine. Embrace this number, when you’re just having fun and the stakes are low. Another type of this song is the one that’s sung by a smaller supporting character; it’s meant to develop their character or add little details to the plot. Unfortunately, these songs are usually pretty boring. But if the song of your life feels “boring”, it could be a good thing. Use this boring time to relax and get back to your seat. Don’t worry, not every moment must be iconic. While you’re not going to remember this song when you see it on stage, and you’ll skip this song on the soundtrack, appreciate the boring and irrelevant stuff. They say you should live your life so it’ll be interesting for a hypothetical “audience”, but I disagree with putting that pressure on yourself. Musical theatre may be all about entertainment, but life isn’t.
