You never know you’ve lost something till it’s really gone

Or so the saying goes

And yet I knew

Oh I dwelled in the denial

I tried to stop the slipping away

And yet it followed me

Every note I played although perfectly in tune sounded flat in my ear

Every song on the page looked bland and unclear

Every minute, a chore, as though I was training for a war

For nothing is more draining then fighting for what is already lost

Oh I knew why

I just turned the other cheek

Because how do you lose something that runs so deep?

How do you lose something you’ve built over so many years?

Music had lost the spark it brought for little me

It felt like a fairytale dream

Fluffy and wishy washy with no meaning to glean

Oh I knew it was gone a long time ago

So, I finally let it go

It’ll come back if it’s meant to be

Or so the saying goes
