This morning, I woke up feeling carsick

curtains drawn, but the October heat beat down

pooling in my room.

That’s enough!

Back to sleep, until nightfall

when I take a trip to the harvest moon

flying on my magic carpet.

(it’s actually a gaming chair)

Oh! Great Orange Moon!

won’t you let California have

real fall

We just as much desire

the crisp, youthful

freshness of a cold autumn day

air of medicine

as those sparkling summer afternoons

By the ocean.

Please, Moon!
so he replies.

(unfortunately)

I offer you a deal

impossible to pass up.

Wait out autumn, let it pass…

and in winter

be amazed

Would you rather

the crisp autumn,

winter and spring spent wet

and trapped inside?

Even then you would come complaining!

No. Be as a desert tortoise,

to watch the hot months go by

when the time comes

enjoy the winter

followed by spring

early morning chills

Have patience.

—so goes The Deal
