Oh stabbing at my heart like a sharp knife

Yet shielding my heart from the painful thrust

Fear and courage, my emotions in strife

Searching for my dear friend, to whom I trust

Cutting through the thicket my heart racing

Unknown beasts howling into the cold night

Is she tremulant? Is she suffering?

Distraught and distressed I head for the light

Shocked at the betrayal on which I stare

Ashamed, by my trust so freely given

I see her with my dear love standing there

In his arms, she cannot be forgiven

Without trust there is no courage within

Knowing the truth, that fear will always win
