I am only made human by the love of another

Til the engagement of rapport, dormant my soul shall be

The essence of myself exists solely for others to uncover

Made to know the world by the caress of a mother

Without amity, destined to never be known in entirety

I am only made human by the love of another

Light as a board and as stiff as a feather

The treasures of childhood held in my mind’s reliquary

The essence of ourselves exists solely for others to uncover

In shared experience, once lost memories are fated to sputter

To truly know me is to cause my hearts diastole

I am only made human by the love of another

In the brightness of company, my life’s days are brought to color

Strings of unrelated conversations forming a crude sort of potpourri

The essence of myself exists solely for others to uncover

In the solace of a friend, our true selves we can discover

To nurture my mind is to unlock my soul by its only key

I am only made human by the love of another

The essence of myself exists solely for others to uncover

Kailey Chang, junior, has found fulfillment in the realm of literature from a young age, whether it be through consumption or creation of her own. When she’s not feeding her love for reading and writing, you can often find her in the arts studio working on ceramic pieces, or performing various types of traditional Korean dance. Chang looks forward to sharing her works with the student body this year and learning from the works of her peers as a writer for the OLu Muse.
