Do not say what you feel,
Downplay and deflect,
This is my greatest defense.
Wait for it to dissipate,
Then to be disappointed,
When it doesn’t go away.
Try to be hopeful,
Try not to stress,
Try to do the impossible everyday.
Smile and laugh,
Walk while you talk,
Do not cringe away.
Use light steps,
Lean on your cane,
Take your pills each night and day.
They tell you to go,
Out into the world,
Where they say it will be fun.
They do not know,
How you feel every second,
Of every moment each day.
Chronic means all the time,
There is no break,
Only worse pain.
Still have hope,
That one day,
It will all be okay.
