I wanted to address the issue of self-harm in this piece. This struggle affects those around us and it is not always visible to the human eye. I cut rips, tearing the sleeves to symbolize the cutting that is usually hidden beneath them. Some of the rips are messily sewn up, while others remain open. Healing is messy. On the back, I embroidered a brain with a painted razor blade stabbed into it. The cause of this pain occurs within one’s own brain, so sometimes to stay alive, you gotta kill your mind.
